Chandigarh Housing Board is spending huge sum of ₹1.5 crores on furniture for its ‘green building’ being built in Sector 9, Chandigarh. The work on consturction of the new building of Chandigarh Housing Board is almost complete and now they hope to inaugurate the building by February. The new building has been designed in a sustainable manner to make best use of the resources available including natural light, water treatment plant, rainwater harvesting and solar panels with minimum generation of non-biodegradeable waste.

The board is looking to purchase furniture for its new building. Tenders have also been floated for the same. As per reports,One tender for purchase of chairs and sofas is worth ₹65.73 lakh. The will be meant for seating of employees, officers and visitors. The second tender has been issued for purchase of table and other furniture for a cost of ₹86.98 lakh. After the agency is selected for the same, they will have to complete the work within two months.

The adviser visited the site two weeks ago and took notice of the ongoing construction of the site. He directed the authorities to finish the work at the earliest. Sources said that Home Minister Amit Shah may be invited to inaugurate the building.

The building has been constructed with all the modern techniques keeping sustainability in mind. Housing Board building will have its own water sewerage plant so that all the sewage water can be processed and made available for use in the building itself. There is 2-level parking facility in the basement in which 221 vehicles can be parked out of which only 33 will be on the surface. Charging Stations have also been built for charging of electric vehicles in the building parking.
