Chandigarh achieves 100 per cent vaccination of target population

UT Chandigarh achieved a commendable feat of 100 per cent vaccination of its target population of 18 years and above. Dharam Pal, UT Adviser congratulated all the doctors, nursses and health care workers in Chandigarh on administering both the doses to its target population. Pal stated that with 127 per cent vaccination of the first dose, Chandigarh is first in the country and even after achieving this milestone if 100 per cent second dose, will continue with the efforts to cover more people even from adjoining areas.

Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health Services, said that, “I am very happy that our efforts to vaccinate 100 per cent of thepopulation have yielded results. From mobile teams to door-to-door vaccinations, arrangements for special categories for home vaccination, sessions by doctors to adress vaccine hesitancy in various dispensaries in the city, campaigns to motivate people to come forward to get themselves vaccinated, reminder phone calls to those who had not taken both doses, it was all a team effort.”

The vaccination has proved that it safeguards people from contracting the disease, hospitalisation and death. Vccination has helped keep rate of hospitalisation low as most of the hospitalisations are of people with comorbidities and the older age group.

Talking about the third wave, Dr. Singh added that we cannot lower our guard and have to observe the trend for a week or so. Our primary focus now will be on the 15-18 age group so that children could get vaccinated and go back to schools and colleges.
