BJP named veteran leader Sanjay Tandon (60) as their Lok Sabha candidate after current MP Kirron Kher opted out from elections due to health concerns. Tandon is a prominent leader in Chandigarh politics and has served as Chandigarh BJP Chief for about a decade.
Sanjay Tandon is the son of Balram Dass Tandon who himself was a prominent BJP leader and served as Chhattisgarh governor from 2014 to 2018 till his death. BJP appointed Tandon as Chandigarh chief in 2010 which he remained till 2020. He was also appointed as BJP’s election co-incharge for Himachal Pradesh.
A BJP party member said that BJP election committee selected Tandon among 3 candidates – former BJP MP Satya Pal Jain and former BJP Chandigarh Chief Arun Sood.
AAP has decided not to field their candidate from Chandigarh. Congress, on the other hand, has not announced their Lok Sabha candidate. The party is mulling among 3 names for their Lok Sabha candidate – former Lok Sabha MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, Chandigarh Congress President Harmohinder Singh Lucky and Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari.
Lok Sabha elections are to be held in Chandigarh on June 1 and the results will be announced on June 4.
